Backgrounds and display wallpapers: compiled to meet the requirements of interior designers, decorators and display artists in the contemporary style – designed and coloured to meet the demands and moods of to-day’s modern living, offering unlimited possibilities for individual arrangements
This title is a ring bound pattern book produced by John Line & Sons, in 1953, designed to sell their designs to prospective clients and purchasers. It is a great example of postwar textile design.
John Line & Sons was founded c.1880 by John Line, who was a cabinetmaker from Bath. It specialised in selling wallpapers before block-printing and stencilling its own designs, such as the ones featured in this title.
Designers who worked for Line included designer and theorist Christopher Dresser, who was a major contributor to the Aesthetic Movement, the Art Nouveau design firm Silver Studio, architect C. F. A. Voysey and William J. Neatby,
This title is in special collections and is available for viewing by appointment, which can be arranged here.
