Happy National Shakespeare Day!

To celebrate National Shakespeare Day, we thought we would share some beautiful copies of Shakespeare’s works. These copies were bound by Talwin Morris (1865-1911) was a prolific book designer and decorative artist working in Glasgow in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is particularly known for his Glasgow Style book designs, furniture and metalwork. We hold an extensive collection of book designs by Morris, across all periods of his output, and have some very beautiful copies of Shakespeare’s writing.

You can read more about Talwin Morris here, and browse our collection of Talwin Morris books here, and view digitised bindings here.

  1. Delighted to see the Talwin Morris designs used to celebrate Shakespeare.
Not only are the bindings stunning but the care taken with the capitals, the end papers and the overall production is wonderful. Time to celebrate Talwin Morris as well!
